Today I opened a document in Microsoft Word (the sunday paper review that I was poised to publish, barring the odd alteration with a sentence or two) when wanting to modify this document the screen went blank. I suppose the right thing to own done at this point ended up being to head to edit>undo but I didn't.
I was frankly mystified; I'd already suffered a shock last week-end when my lap top suddenly refused to respond and I were built with a rather depressing one day of interest until a pal here had diagnosed a problem with the battery. Relief!
In these twenty four hours, it provided the opportunity to think about how much we usually rely on our little machines. Just over this past year, my old PC caught the herpes simplex virus along with the same task occurred, unexpectedly. I lost, not only some precious writings but all my emails, passwords and stuff I can't (or wouldn't like to) re-call.
It brought back a similar memories: It was like having too difficult in which a large part of my existence have been removed and I had the identical situation last weekend, albeit just for a day approximately, zombie state.
I do have a tendency to back-up things by using an external H/D but I have to admit I'm a little lax about this. Luckily at that time, several of my old emails were stored with a greetings card internet site so I was very grateful for your at the very least.
So to this morning. I opened the document, consisting of some 1000 words or thereabouts and as soon as I attemptedto add some words the screen went blank, immediately, no warning, no: "Are you sure you need to ditch this handful of hours of one's creativity?"
No - nothing, zilch.
Then I tried system restore, which I won't go anywhere near and also have it disabled (eventhough it seemed to get re-abled itself today on it's own - curious?) Negative result anyway.
So, I searched and I searched, over the usual channels and I may find this 19.5 kb file easily however with a similar result - blank page.
Now obviously it needs to be somewhere in my hard disk but where? I even checked the re-cycle bin just in case, yet, no.
I spent hours online, trawling from the Microsoft (soft in the head?) "support" which. as usual had me going round and round and rou....what?? Oh, yes!
Sorry about that, just nodded off, the thing is.
I even down-loaded a recovery programme and, needless to say, re-cycled that right away.
Point is, I'm a bit nervous now about writing any articles, when they can just disappear in smoke before my eyes. I always save, save, save as I'm writing but for this occasion, I'm writing direct onto Street Articles in the same way a precaution and may choose to save any future stuff like a draft; no less than that way, I know it's available somewhere.
I'd advise other people to complete the same.
Meanwhile, if any one you humans have any response to this bizarre problem, you may could tell me, so I can avoid it in future.
Many thanks.
